2014 Craft Competition

2014 ABC Craft Competition

The 2014 Pelican Chapter ABC Craft Competition was held on December 11, 2014.  Students from Pelican Chapter’s evening and night classes competed in Electrical, Instrumentation, Millwright, Pipefitting, and Pipe Welding.  The competitors for this event were chosen by their instructors for their exemplary performance, good attendance, and above average grades on written tests in their respective classes.

The competition mirrors the ABC National Competition and consists of three parts.  The first two parts are the performance and knowledge tests.  Each competitor not only has to do well with their hands portion of the competition, but also with a written assessment pertaining to both safety and knowledge of their craft.  The third and most important part of this competition is safety as it pertains to the use of proper PPE, housekeeping, and the tasks involved during the hands on part of the contest.  This can mean the difference between first and second place and like the jobsite, it should dictate how to do a task correctly and in what order.

The first place winners from each craft will go on to represent Pelican Chapter at the 2015 ABC National Craft Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on March 3-6, 2015.  The only exception to this is that the second place winner from the pipe welding will go on to compete in the plate welding portion of the national event.  Below is the list of winners and their employers.

Pelican Chapter’s Training Center would like to say thank you to all of our contractors, vendors, and owners who helped supply materials, volunteers and judges that made all this possible.  It is through this tireless dedication to craft training that we are able to grow and serve the industry.
